Newly arrived international students at Chalmers were welcomed at the Landvetter and Säve airports on the arrival day on August 27.
The event was a happening during the big Welcome Week which is organized by Chalmers and Chalmers International Reception Commitee (CIRC).
Abhilash Ram, chalmerist and project assistant at Chalmers, wrote this nice report for the blog about the Arrival Day:
I was driven in a Volvo from Chalmers at 08.30 in the morning to the international airport at Landvetter, Gothenburg, along with Bao, a Phadder for CIRC and Olivia, ESN Local Representative CIRC co-piloting.
Tim, Vice President, CIRC, was the one behind the steering wheel.
The drive didn’t last very long thanks to the lack of congestion and of course the friendly banter between the four of us.
A short wait at the airport, and I got to meet the project manager of the Chalmers Welcome Week – Titti Wahlström. We were greeted by the information desk at the airport who gave us passes to the inner secured area of the airport and helped us set up a desk just near the baggage conveyors.
Shortly after, our first students began trickling in and so began a beautiful day of welcoming new students from all around the world, handing out airport shuttle bus tickets, maps, keys to apartments, getting contracts signed and helping them with directions and other questions.
Over all, we had a student from Iceland who brought his bike along; a Japanese student whose baggage was lost after a flight cancellation and even a student who travelled all the way from Costa Rica going through four layovers and transits.
Many were tired and others were excited, but there was one thing common with all of them, the sense of happiness that they exuded after they met us. That happiness on their face is what makes me glad for the job I have and the things I do.
A wonderful day indeed!
Next Stop? Chalmers!
